Under the leadership of Prof. Karl Schaller, a research group consisting of experts from the University of Geneva, the Swiss Foundation for Innovation & Training in Surgery (SFITS) and Black Forest Medical’s Team Leader Testing Dr. Jan Mertens just published a scientific article about pinning.
The team determined the skull pin penetration into the cranial bone during typical applications. An experimental study was conducted to analyze puncture holes of skull pins resulting from cranial fixation. One finding of the study is that the factors pin angle, pinning force and location have a significant effect on the depth of the puncture.
